Prof. Jack Cheng Co-develops Hong Kong’s First Digital Twin–Based ESG Platform for Property and Facility Management Industries
Prof. Jack Cheng has collaborated with Modern Living Investments Holdings Ltd. to develop Hong Kong’s first digital twin-based environmental, social and governance (ESG) platform for the property and facility management industries. The platform was funded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s Innovation and Technology Fund through the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre (LSCM).
This new platform combines Building Information Modeling (BIM), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and AI technologies, focusing on three main objectives: firstly, a reference data model and robot-assisted protocol for indoor air quality (IAQ) based on geographic sensing data acquisition; secondly, a prototype software for facility management based on spatiotemporal AI analysis models; and thirdly, the digital twin — a software as a service (SaaS) platform for data integration and dynamic display of decision-making and ESG reporting.
Prof. Cheng emphasizes that the widely used air monitoring systems on the market are mostly fixed-point monitoring systems. The concept of his research is to use existing disinfection robots for mobile monitoring and focus on cleaning areas with poor air quality. He hopes the project can translate academic research into practical use and promote industry development. The platform is planned to be completed by September 2024, after being tested in two shopping malls.
